Blanket Flower or Indian Blanket or Firewheel Seeds
Gaillardia pulchella
Also known as Indian blanket or Firewheel, Blanketflower occurs throughout Florida in dry savannahs, coastal dunes and other dry, open areas. It blooms in spring, summer and into fall in North Florida, and year-round in Central and South Florida. Its colorful blooms attract a variety of pollinating insects.

Blooms profusely. Wonderfully variable in both colors and patterns. Flowers rise above hairy, grayish green leafy stems. Somewhat attractive to butterflies. Drought tolerant once established.
Lifespan: Short-lived perennial; occasionally annual
Light exposure: Full sun to high pine shade
Bloom color: Yellow and red (relative amounts can vary substantially); red; yellow; rose; white is very rare
Bloom season: Mid-spring to mid-fall

Habitat: Dry sandy open areas (coastal; disturbed)
